Greenbelt Alliance Announces Support for Prop. 22

Prop. 22 Stops State Raids of Local Government and Transportation Funds and Protects Local Public Safety, Emergency Response, Transportation, Transit and Other Vital Local Services

Sacramento, CA – The Yes on 22 campaign, Californians to Protect Local Taxpayers and Vital Services, announced today that Greenbelt Alliance has endorsed Prop. 22 on the November ballot.

Prop. 22 is supported by more than 500 public safety, local government, transportation, business, labor, taxpayer and public transit leaders. Click here for a complete list of supporters.  Prop. 22 would prevent the State from taking, diverting or borrowing local government, transportation and public transit funds.

“For more than 50 years, Greenbelt Alliance has been the San Francisco Bay Area's advocate for protecting the region’s iconic landscape and creating vibrant, inviting neighborhoods within the Bay Area’s cities and towns. We view Prop. 22 as critical to keeping growth in the urban core, reducing our reliance on cars, and preserving farmland and natural areas,” said Jeremy Madsen, executive director, Greenbelt Alliance. “Prop. 22 will stop state raids of redevelopment and transit funds, which are vital to creating vibrant, walkable communities with viable transit options.”

For too long, Sacramento politicians have used loopholes in the law to take billions in taxpayer funds dedicated to local government and transportation services. Continued State raids jeopardize the vital local services we rely upon, like emergency response, police, fire, parks, libraries and senior services.

Yes on 22 will:

STOP the State from taking or borrowing local tax dollars dedicated to cities and counties to fund vital local services like 9-1-1 response, police, and fire protection.

STOP the State from taking or diverting gas taxes we pay at the pump that voters have dedicated to local road repairs, transportation improvements, and public transportation.
